The city is a popular spa resort offering a special atmosphere with healing, sporting, tourist and leisure attractions. Its fame is due to the great healing waters which led to establishing of Krynica&nbsp,as a spa resort in 1793, bringing health and strength to thousands of people.
The city located in Malopolska region is also well known because of running.
It is the running capital of Poland, 4th edition of the Running Festival, with the record expected 8000 participants from all over the country and abroad, starts here on Friday 6th of September.
MRWCh 2013 is the main attraction of the Festival programme (over 30 distances for all running fans, including kids, pupils, families and companies) and the main festival event for the professional runners from all over the world.
The temperature of the MRWCh in Krynica-Zdr&oacute,j is high, althought the autumn is just behind the corner.
That’s because the course on the Jaworzyna Mountain – the location (1114 m a.s.l., part of the Beskid S&#261,decki massif) – is not usual. It starts with ground drop and finishes with climb. We do not see often such profile these days.
The categories in the championship progamme are traditional: junior and senior races, both in women and men categories.
The junior women will compete on 4,65 km course with +286/-286 m elevation, junior boys will face the 9,08 km with +561/-551 elevation. The same course is prepared for senior women. Senior men course – 13,56 km with +828/-828 m elevation – is the toughest challange.
All races will take place on Sunday from 9:15 to 12.00.
First to start are the juniors.
There will be the flower ceremony after each race, the award ceremony will be conducted in the evening on 19:00 on Krynica’s Promenade.
The same location is for the Championship Opening Ceremony.
Olimpic-style flag parade in front of the Running Festival participants is planned.
The day before the Championships there&nbsp, will be held the 30 WMRA Congress with election of the new WMRA Council.
29. Mountain Running World Championships is supported by Malopolska region and European Commission. Both are deeply interested in promoting athletics, and in particular mountain running.

Mountain Runner, Stephen Kiprotich surges to 2013 World Marathon title in Moscow.

Stephen Kiprotich, one of Uganda’s Mountain running team in 2010, who took the 2012 Olympic Marathon title in London 2012 has again scaled a global peak with victory in Moscow at the IAAF World Championships Marathon 2013.
Kiprotich surged ahead in the late stages to win ahead of 2 Ethiopian rivals.
With a best time of 2 hours and 7 minutes global dominance continues for this humble mountain running Ugandan athlete who took 5th place at the 2010 World Mountain Running Championships in Kamnik, Slovenia.

Kiprotich who moved to Kenya at the age of 17 to develop his running ability amongst many elite groups of fellow Africans highlights the benefits of high altitude and quality coaching as his main reasons for basing himself in Kenya.
Will he be seen on the mountains again?
Well we all look forward to his return on the mountains and running fans will look forward to welcoming the athletes and the nation that bears the colours of yellow, red and black on their flag.
The black stripes symbolize the African people, the yellow symbolizes the sun and the red stands for brotherhood and fraternity.
The grey Crane bird symbolises the gentle on humble nature of this proud African nation that border the successful running nations of Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya.
Ugandan athletes are expected to feature highly at the upcoming World Mountain Running Championships in Poland on September 8.

Master World Mountain Running Championships 2013 in Janske Lazne is ready to start.

The participants began to come to the 13th World Masters Mountain Running Championships in Jansk&eacute, L&aacute,zn&#283,.
Competitors representing 25 countries among the 503 entries will vie for individual and team medals on race day.

The entrants include seven from the United States, including 1993 World Mountain Trophy silver-medalist Dave Dunham who will race in the 45-49 age group.
A complete start list is available at this link http://www.maratonstav.cz/.
Race weekend kicks off on Thursday, August 29, with accreditation, followed by a ceremony and parade on Friday evening.
Races start with the 75-79 year age group at 11:00 a.m., and conclude with the 35-39 age group at 1:40 p.m.
The closing ceremony gets underway at 5:00 p.m. The afternoon will be followed by a cultural program.

“Czech Republic boasts a strong mountain running program on the worldwide stage having hosted the 1997 World Mountain Running Trophy, the 2006 European Mountain Running Championships, and for the third time this year, the WMRA-WMA Masters Mountain Running Championships, which will be held in Janske Lazne on Saturday, August 31.
This historic run of championship designations can be credited in large part to Karel Skliba who, with three other mountain runners in 1982, was able to leave then communist-ruled Czechoslovakia to go abroad for the first time. Skliba arranged with eleven friends across the country to start a Czech National Mountain Running Cup in 1983. This year marks the 28th running of the Cup which now boasts 34 races, six of which are up/down courses while the others, like the initial 11, are strictly uphill courses.
When the Czech borders opened in 1990, Skliba traveled to Telfes for the World Mountain Running Trophy and took a team from the Czech Republic to compete for the first time.
Since that Trophy race in 1990, Skliba attended every World Trophy through 2009 when the title changed to championships and has subsequently attended each championship since 2009.
It was at the 1995 event in Edinburgh, Skliba submitted a successful bid to host the 1997 World Mountain Running Trophy in Male Svatonovice.
And in 1997, at the first Masters World Mountain Running Championships in Kitzbuehel, Skliba bid to host the event in Janske Lazne the following year and went on to bid again to host in 2008, with Dolni Morava as the venue.
In spite of a heavy workload, Skliba has been able to continue his avocation for sport and is race director for this year’s championships. Part of his duties included designing the course which Skliba has done along with a friend from the area. Skliba says the route is a bit different than that of 1998, and includes some pavement at the start, forested pathways, grassy meadows and approximately 650 meters of climbing over the 8.6-kilometer course to a high point just under 1300 meters. &quot,The record (from bottom to top), is by a Czech runner in 34 minutes, but that time was on a different course,&quot, said Skliba who doesn’t know what the winning time will be for this course, but did say, &quot,A 60-year-old runner made it in 57 minutes.&quot,
Asked why he chose to host the event at Janske Lazne – at the Cerna Hora ski area, Skliba says, &quot,Because we are home here and we are nearest to the high point in Czech – 1602-foot Snezka. It is not possible to make a race there. This area is the next best thing: &quot,We wish to everyone to have a good time here and enjoy this area and these races,&quot, continued Skliba, &quot,All the races we have hosted in the past provided a super atmosphere, and I want Janske Lazne to be the same or better this year.&quot,
At the competition will attend some WMRA Officials starting from President, Italian Bruno Gozzelino, WMA Official like Canadian Brian Kaveney and Libor Varhan&iacute,k – President CAF – CZK, Gejza Valent – President veterans CAF – CZK, Franti&scaron,ek Fojt – Director CAF, Alena Gajd&#367,&scaron,kov&aacute, – Vice President Senate of Parliament od CR, Vladim&iacute,r &Scaron, pidla – Eminent Euro-Commissioner and Lubom&iacute,r Franc – President of the region Kr&aacute, lov&eacute, hradeck&yacute,.

258 Runners from 14 countries gathered on the start line of the 15th Grintovec race in a beautiful valley of Kamniska Bistrica 25km north from Ljubljana.

Eritrean runner started with a high pace that no one could follow, so he run his own race all along the 9,6km course with extreme 2000 elevation gain. He crossed the finish line with a smile on his face in a decent time of 1:22:14, which was far away from the course record and also from his winning time from the last year – but still a very good results when respecting the extreme conditions – it was the hottest day of this summer with 38degC in the valley.
All the others were fitting for the rest 2 medals and the strongest was local Nejc Kuhar, third from the last year, specialist for extreme mountain running races like kilometre vertical.
Baldaccini, who was the only one who even tried to follow the late winner, paid the price of too fast beginning and finished third.
A short view to the start list of the women’s race shows only one candidate for the top position: Mateja Kosovelj, bronze medallist from Borovets did not disappoint her fans and finished clearly in fort of the others.

WMRA Grand Prix resumes in Kamnik.

After the European and NACAC Mountain Running Championships, more than 200 runners from 14 countries have entered the 15th edition of &quot,The Grintovec Mountain running race&quot,, the third stage of 2013 WMRA Grand Prix, that will be held on Sunday 28th July in Kamnik, Slovenia.
The course is a real mountain course, taking the normal trail from the Kamniska Valley (602m) to the Grintovec summit (2554m).
Almost 2000m elevation gain on less than 10km, normal hikers need 6 hours to reach the summit and another six to go back.
Course record holders are Jonathan Wyatt and Anna Pichrtova (1:15:43 and 1:31:50, both in 2006) and it seems that those records will last for a long time.”
“There will be lots of famous runners among the starters.
In the men’s division, Azeira Teklay from Eritrea, three times World vice-champion will try to repeat his success from 2012.
He will find his strongest opponents in Italian Baldaccini, current European vice-champion and his teammate Abate.&nbsp,
Nejc Kuhar and Simon Alic, local experts for steep climbs, will surely try to show their strength on the home mountain. Surprise could also come from Great Britain, Japan or USA.
In the women’s division Mateja Kosovelj, bronze medallist from European championships and second in Grand prix race in Arco just a week ago will surely attack the women’s course record.
Another strong lady on the slopes of Grintovec will be Iva Milesova.
The weather forecast promises hot and sunny weather that is not the best for the runners, but high altitude will decrease the summer temperatures.
