WMRA STATEMENT ON ADVERSE ANALYTICAL FINDING CONCERNING THE 2025 SIERRE-ZINAL FEMALE WINNER
The World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) has been formally notified by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) that the female athlete who finished first at Sierre-Zinal 2025 has returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) from an anti-doping test conducted in connection with the event.
In line with the World Anti-Doping Code, the athlete has been provisionally suspended by the relevant authority pending the conclusion of results management and any hearing or appeal.
“This is how a clean-sport system should work: intelligent testing, independent oversight, and due process,” said Jonathan Wyatt, WMRA World Cup Manager. “We thank the AIU and event officials for their professionalism and we stand unequivocally with Sierre-Zinal and all organizers in our World Cup who uphold rigorous anti-doping standards. Cheating has no place in mountain running.”
WMRA’S COMMITMENT TO CLEAN SPORT
- Investment: In the 2025 season, the WMRA World Cup has allocated more than 25% of its operating budget to anti-doping controls, education, and intelligence-led testing.
- Testing footprint: Every WMRA World Cup race has implemented a minimum of six anti-doping tests, bringing the series to nearly 100 tests this year.
- Partnerships: WMRA cooperates with the AIU and national anti-doping organizations to plan, conduct, and follow up on tests in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code.
“We trust the AIU’s independent process and are grateful to all officials and medical teams who safeguard competitive integrity week in, week out,” added Tomo Sarf, WMRA President. “Our message to athletes is clear: the system works, and we will continue to invest, educate, and test.”
