Favourites win at Heiligenblut
682 runners run the first WMRA Grand Prix race in Heiligenblut / Austria. World Champion Jonathan Wyatt (NZL) beat the new European Champion Marco Gaiardo (ITA) by a comfortable half a minute and these two were well clear of the rest of the field. Anna Pichrtova dominated the women’s race, beating last years Grand Prix winner, Izabella Zatorska by a massive 10 minutes and placing 15th overall in the race. Entry deadline
Reminder to those considering entering the Pikes Peak Marathon (USA), this years WMRA Long Distance Challenge. Entries must arrive by 22nd July at the latest.

WMRA 2006 MOUNTAIN RUNNING GRAND PRIX

The following preview appears on the IAAF web page.

The first of six Grand Prix mountain races takes place in Austria (Heiligenblut – Grossglockner) on Sunday July 23rd. The following weekend (30th) athletes move to Slovenia (Kamnik – Grintovec) and on the 6th August back to Austria (Telfes – Schlickeralm).
There is then a pause as mountain runners compete in trail races to represent their countries in the World Trophy on September 10th.
The Grand Prix continues in Switzerland (Saillon – 2 Bains), returns to Slovenia (Ljubljana – Smarna Gora) on 7th October and finally to Gibraltar for a race to the top of the famous Rock of Gibraltar. An athletes best four results count towards the final overall result and Grand Prix winner.
The race on Sunday (23rd July) has attracted last years Grand Prix winners, Jonathan Wyatt (NZL) and Izabel Zatorska (POL).
Wyatt, unbeaten in mountain races for some years, starts firm favourite, but Zatorska will have difficulty holding off the new European mountain running champion Anna Pichrtova (CZE).
The uphill race covers 13.6km and climbs 1200m

NACAC championship details announced

2006 NACAC Mountain Running Championships

México será sede del 3er Campeonato NACAC de Carrera de Montaña el domingo 25 de junio de 2006 en Ajijic, Jalisco, México. El evento será sancionado por la Federación Mexicana de Atletismo.

El trayecto de 13.8 Km tiene las siguientes elevaciones. Salida 1,550 m snm y el punto máximo a 2,400 m snm. El trayecto es a una vuelta sobre veredas. Además, paralelamente será el 4º Campeonato Nacional de Montaña y selectivo para el Campeonato Mundial de Carrera de Montaña a realizarse en Bursa, Turquía.

Los Campeonatos 2004 y 2005 de NACAC se celebraron en Colorado, EUA pero sólo participaron los Estados Unidos y Canadá.

Este evento NACAC está diseñado para promover la carrera de montaña en la región. Los equipos estarán integrados por 3 atletas, siendo los 2 primeros los que darán los puntos por equipo. La competencia será en varonil y femenil.

Para poder organizar todo, por favor, hagan llegar lo antes posible cuantos miembros viajarán y su plan de viaje

3er Campeonato NACAC de Carrera de Montaña

El 3er Campeonato NACAC de Carrera de Montaña se celebrará en Ajijic, Jalisco el domingo 25 de junio paralelamente al 4° Campeonato Nacional de Carrera de Montaña y de la 10ª Carrera La Chupinaya.

Este Campeonato será organizado por el Club de Atletismo Ajijic y subsidiado con los apoyos que el mismo club pueda obtener.

En el Campeonato podrán participar corredores de países afiliados a la NACAC. Participarán un máximo de 3 corredores por país en Varonil y 3 en Femenil. Se premiará con medallas a los tres primeros corredores de ambas ramas. Por equipos. Los dos primeros corredores serán los que otorgarán puntos al equipo. Se entregará una trofeo al equipo ganador tanto en Varonil y Femenil.
Los corredores serán recibidos en Ajijic a partir de la comida del viernes 23 de junio y despedidos después del desayuno del lunes 26.

New commission plans S.American mountain running championships

A new mountain running commission has been set up in South America. It will be responsible for ‘out of stadium’ events on Road, Cross Country, and Mountain Running.
Chairman, Marcos Oviedo, (who is also a member of the IAAF Road & Cross Country Committee) has announced that a South American mountain running championships will take place in either Columbia or Venezuela later this year.
The commission members are;

2006 World Cross Country Championships in Fukuoka (Japan)

Mountain runners competing for their country in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships put in some fine performances last weekend (April 1-2) in Japan. When looking at their positions remember that the leading places were taken up with Kenyans and Ethiopians.
In this table I have shown their latest World Trophy position, class (SW=senior women, etc), followed by their World Cross Country position and class (SML=senior men long course, SMS=senior men short course, JW=junior women, etc)
