International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF)
Mountain running is a worldwide sport and branch of traditional athletics.
Traditional athletics was defined in the past as Track and field, Cross Country, Road Running and Race walking. In 2002 after the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) had staged, since 1985, a successful event entitled ‘the World Trophy’, attracting entries from more than 30 countries, the IAAF congress added Mountain running to that definition. (IAAF Rule 1)
IAAF recognises WMRA as the controlling body for international mountain running competition. |
